- Understanding Everything Is Not A Condition For Salvation

Written by Eileen R. Jacobs

"The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.” - Psalm 119:130

When I was a little girl of about 7 years old, my mother used to let me help out in the kitchen when she was busy with my baby brother. On this day, I was to set a pan of water on the stove, place a few hot dogs into the water, and turn on the burner until it boiled for a few minutes. We didn’t have microwaves or other warming devices back then, so this is how we made hot dogs.

I had done this job before, so I waited for the water to boil. After awhile, I walked into my room to get something as the water still wasn’t boiling. When I returned, the entire stove was on fire. A tall blaze of wicked, red fire was engulfing the stove top all the way to the ceiling. As you can imagine, I was paralyzed with fear and yelled for my mother. Before I knew it the firefighters were on the scene and the blaze was out, but the whole house was coated in thick, greasy smoke and I couldn’t breathe.

Whether you have ever experienced a life threatening situation or not, I’m certain you can understand the terror and hopelessness that accompanies these kinds of events. Let me ask you a question. If you were in a building that was engulfed in fire, would you want to get out? Of course you would! I doubt you’d take the time to argue with the fireman who is trying to show you the way out, or complain about his method of rescue. Though you might be nervous to take his hand or climb out of a window with him, I’m sure you wouldn’t question his intentions or the integrity of his ladder. Who takes the time to criticize the fireman’s uniform or the color of his truck? Really, I don’t know too many people who would argue with the fireman who is trying to save them. I tell you, anyone who has been saved from a fire is more thankful to be alive, and is sincerely humbled at the sight of the firemen who came to rescue them.

Considering my analogy, it always makes me wonder why people in every generation still argue with God over His choice and method of saving humanity. When someone is willing to risk or give their life to save yours, why would you argue with them or choose to remain in the fire instead of being saved? Perhaps you don’t realize that you need saving, or maybe you are aware that things aren’t right in your life, but you don’t know how to get out of the fire. My friend, God knew you would need saving, and like a good Father, He provided a way out for you. He did this together with His own Son, Jesus, on your behalf. Look at how the Word of God describes Jesus.

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” - Luke 19:10
“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” - John 3:17

It says in the first verse, about the Son, that He came “to seek” what was lost. That same verse says He came “to save” what was lost, also. To seek and to save! That sure sounds like a good intention! Have you ever wondered what was lost? It was the perfect relationship with the perfect creation (us, as humanity) that God once had. Can you believe it? He took it upon Himself to restore that relationship, whatever the cost. Notice the second verse listed makes it very clear that God’s purpose in sending His Son the first time was to save the world, it was not to condemn it at that time. There will come a time when the world will be condemned for it’s unbelief in God and His Son who came to save them, but that time has not yet come.

My friend, the fireman has come to save you. Don’t be afraid of Him. Jesus is not pointing a condemning finger at you, but He has extended His hand of grace and rescue. Be honest with yourself. What is your life really like? Are you suffering from the burning pain of failure, defeat, or rejection? Do you feel alone, even though you have people around you? Are you making all kinds of mistakes and suffering the guilt and shame of them? You know we live in a sin-filled world and it is impossible to avoid being burned, either by our own mistakes (which we all have them) or by the mistakes of others. Is your body weak, sick and tired? Do you lack real joy, inside and out? Are things just not right, and you know it? My friend, if you are at this point right now, know that there is a way of escape. God created you for so much more. He created you so He could have a relationship with you based on love, not fear of condemnation. So, if you are discouraged, depressed or feeling hopeless in your situation, know that your help is here. Your Father God in Heaven has sent His Son to rescue you. He did this 2000+ years ago, but the offer still stands. Simply reach out with your heart and receive His salvation. As I mentioned before, you do not need to argue with the fireman, just accept the fact that he came to save you and get out of the burning building. You don’t need to understand everything at this point, just “GET SAVED NOW...ASK QUESTIONS LATER!

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” - John 3:16

These are the most amazing words ever spoken by God! My friend, God is not mad at you. It doesn’t even matter to Him how the fires in your life were started; whether you were the one who started them or someone else. He already knows everything there is to know about you. The truth is that God is more interested in loving you, by saving you, than to allow you to perish. How exactly did He save you? Glad you asked!

“For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;” - 1 Peter 3:18
“Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” - Philippians 4:8

That is how it was done! Whether you fully understand what sin is, or how you became sinful doesn’t really matter much at this point. The point is that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for your sins. He died on a cross. He did it to bring you to God. God gave Him to save you. This is God’s promise to you. If you will just believe that God sent His Son to save you, you are not going to perish. Period! No “ifs,” “ands,” or “buts.” No matter how destructive the fires in your life may seem, you are not going to perish if you believe this! What a promise! No, in fact, you will have eternal life. Life that never ends, and is always in perfect relationship with God. Let me ask again. Are you going to argue with the fireman?

“And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” - Acts 2:21

My friend, just reach out with your heart and simply believe that He came to save you. Call on His name. Say to Him from your heart and with your voice, “Jesus, I believe you are my Savior! Thank you for saving my life.” This is a very simple prayer, but it works!

“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” - Romans 10:9

Seriously!!! God raised Jesus from the dead! Why? He raised Him from the dead because He said He would. It was written in the Word of God. He raised Him from the dead because He did a perfect work in dying in your place, being punished for your sin. He raised Him from the dead because He Himself had no sin in Himself that needed to be punished or atoned for. This is why Jesus cried at the cross … “It is finished!” It really is finished. There is nothing standing in the way of you having a guilt-free, perfect, loving relationship with the God of Heaven. My friend, understanding everything is not a condition for your salvation; believing is! You will come to understand more and more, as you grow in a relationship with the Lord over time. The Lord Himself will teach you as you read His Word and fellowship with Him in prayer. Just GET SAVED NOW...ASK QUESTIONS LATER!

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,” - John 1:12

My friend, if you prayed that simple prayer (above) from your heart and spoke it with your mouth (even a whisper reaches the Throne of God), that means you have “received” Jesus as your Savior. It’s like taking a gift from someone who hands it to you. The Scripture above is very clear...you are now a Child of God. Welcome to the family! This is cause for great excitement, as you will never be condemned again. God loved you, He sent His Son to rescue you, and you believed it. Hallelujah! You will have from now through eternity to learn and understand all the details of what Jesus has truly done for you and what being a Child of God means, but for now, you can rest assured that you are saved. Saved from the fires of hell, from death and destruction, from sin and guilt and condemnation, from sickness and disease, and from not knowing the true nature of the love of God.

You see, when the fire broke out in my house over those hot dogs, (which we never got to eat, by the way), it was because I had turned on the wrong burner. The pan sitting on that wrong burner was filled with grease left over from taco night. It became so hot that it eventually ignited and began burning down the rest of the house. I was saved that day and that was all that mattered to the firemen, to my mother, and to me. Your salvation is what mattered to God, and that is why He sent His Son to die on that cross to save you.

Now that, dear friends, is grace!

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” - Ephesians 2:4-10

Note:

One last note...if today you received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, we encourage you to write the date down somewhere important to you. Many people like to write the date of their salvation on the inside cover of their Bible. I can’t stress enough how important this is to do. Not only does it help you remember the day you became a Child of God, but it is a marker of your New Birth like a birth certificate, which is a legal proof of your existence. This marker is important because, whether you know it or not, there actually is a devil. Since he is a spirit, he has an ability to speak to our minds by way of deceptive thoughts. I can almost guarantee that there will come a time when a suggestive thought will come to your mind that will cause you to question whether you are really saved or not. This is where that date recorded or marker or New Birth certificate becomes important. You can simply go back to your Bible or wherever you wrote it down, and remind yourself or say to the devil...”Nope, you’re wrong! This date is the day I received Jesus, the day of my New Birth, the day I became a Child of God, the day I was saved, the day my name was written in the Lamb’s book of life...end of discussion!”

Finally, we would love to know that you have joined the family of God. We are so excited for you and we want to keep you in our prayers. Email us to let us know!
